WEARSIDE and Durham MPs have kept their top spots in the Labour party after a reshuffle.
Labour leader Ed Miliband has spent the past few days reorganising his front-bench team after his party’s conference in Liverpool.
Washington and Sunderland West MP Sharon Hodgson keeps her post as Shadow Children’s Minister under Labour’s new Shadow Education Secretary, Stephen Twigg.
Mrs Hodgson, a former Government whip, said she was “thrilled” by the news and wished outgoing boss, former Shadow Education Secretary Andy Burnham, all the best in his new role as Shadow Health Secretary.
City of Durham MP Roberta Blackman-Woods stays on as a junior Shadow Minister, but will move from shadowing the Cabinet Office to Communities and Local Government.
North Durham MP Kevan Jones, a former Veterans Minister, stays on in the Shadow Defence team.
South Shields MP David Miliband will remain on the back benches.
