A FIRE which tore through two outbuildings on allotments is thought to have been started malicious.
The fire broke out at the Cornhill Dock allotments shortly before 1pm today and fire crews spent almost two-and-a-half hours putting it out.
A small cordon was put in place as it was feared that propane cylinders on the site could be on fire, although this turned out not to be the case
“Two outbuildings were severely damaged and a boundary fence,” Sunderland Central Fire Station crew manager Peter Wilson said. “We believe it was malicious.”
