STUDENTS took on a spamtastic challenge to win theatre tickets to a top show.

The first Sunderland University student to eat a whole can of Spam won tickets to Monty Python musical, Spamalot.

The eating contest took place during Rag Week which sees students take part in outlandish activities and tournaments to raise funds for charity.

First to polish off a tin was student Andrew Leadbitter.

Spamalot – starring comedian Phill Jupitus and former Eastender Todd Carty – will be at the Sunderland Empire from February 28.

Monty Python’s Spamalot won the Tony Award for Best Musical in 2005 and tells the legendary tale of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table.

It features songs He Is Not Dead Yet, Knights of the Round Table, Find Your Grail and Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life.
