TV presenter Fern Britton talks to Marie Westmoreland about Strictly Come Dancing, keeping fit and her New Year’s resolutions.hn
Sitting comfortably on a sofa with the slimline Strictly star, she enthused about her time on the show and the forthcoming tour which heads to Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle next week.
The 55 year-old, from Ealing said: “I am really looking forward to our trip. I love it up here. It’s not my first visit, but it’s great. The waterfront (Newcastle Quayside) looks fantastic, it’s beautiful.
“I love all the architecture, and some of the very old medieval buildings you’ve got up here are fantastic!”
Joining the presenter on Strictly Come Dancing The Live Tour 2013, is the newly-crowned Strictly winner and Team GB Olympian Louis Smith, West End star Denise Van Outen, former England cricketer Phil Tufnell, Tracey Beaker star Dani Harmer, TV actress Lisa Riley and former England cricket captain Michael Vaughan.
The tour heads to Metro Radio Arena on January 22 until 24, as part of an extensive UK run.
After taking a sneak peek at the size of the arena, Fern said: “The adrenalin is running, my goodness, it’s huge! Is it 12,000 seats or something? It’s unbelievable.”
Fans attending the show, which is presented by Kate Thornton, will get the same experience they did from watching on TV.
“It’s looking exactly the way it looks on television. There’s the band, the singers, the judges – there’s Len, Bruno and Craig.
“The audience get to press their buttons and vote ... please let me win one show,” she said laughing.
In a bid to win, Fern has promised that her dance partner Artem Chigvintsev, will be “topless”.
The Russian dancer showcased his toned torso when he danced with Fern to the paso doble which was “her least favourite dance”, on the BBC show.
She said: “When you are doing a tricky one that you don’t like very much and you think you can’t do, you feel very inhibited and nervous. But when you get something you love you think – this is it.
“My favourite dance was definitely the last one, the salsa. I loved it, it was such fun. If I could dance like that every day, till I die, I’d be happy.”
Dancing has helped keep Fern in shape, and she confessed her “jeans are much looser” since taking part in the show.
Her much-publicised weight loss began after she had a gastric band fitted in 2006.
However, it wasn’t just the band that helped cut her weight by half, she put in the hard work, exercising and eating healthy.
“I am very fit. I cycle a lot and hit the gym three to four times a week,” she explained.
You’d think being married to celebrity chef Phil Vickery would help with eating healthily, however, it’s not the case.
She said: “We are so busy, that food is the last thing on our minds.”
Her advice is to “eat a little bit less,” which she hopes will help her achieve her New Year’s resolution to “get a six pack”.
