A RESCUE mission to save a dog was launched after the pet became stranded on rocks.
The Coastguard was called by the animal’s owners after it was stranded on the outcrop outside of Seaham’s North Pier, at 9.30pm on Thursday.
The team called on Sunderland’s RNLI to collect the dog, with the crew inching in to the rocks to pick it up and return it to the harbour, where its owners were waiting.
The RNLI recommended it was taken to a vet, as it had suffered a cut and had been distressed.
The volunteers have said the owners were right to call the Coastguard, rather than swimming out to save it.
