A HOST of Wearside musicians will take to the stage next year – but not as you know them.
The Futureheads, Field Music, Cornshed Sisters and Frankie and the Heartstrings will dress up as their favourite artists to perform a selection of their songs.
The Stars in Their Eyes-style bash at Newcastle University’s Student Union will raise money for St Oswald’s Hospice, in Gosforth.
The Futureheads guitarist Ross Millard said: “It will be a really funny night, pretty loose, and all the bands will be mixing and playing together.
“It will be good to be able to relax and play other people’s music that is better than ours.”
An organiser of Sunderland’s annual Split Festival, in Ashbrooke, Ross has played a key role in putting on this latest event.
“I’ve got to know a few of the people that work at St Oswald’s and I’ve observed the work they do, so we wanted to find a way to get involved with them and raise some money.
“All the bands will have to don costumes in the style of their chosen acts, which are being kept secret until closer to the time.”
Frankie and the Heartstrings frontman Frankie Francis, said: “We have shortlisted three ideas and we’re trying our main one in rehearsal next week and if we’re accomplished enough we should be able to easily knock out what we’re going to do. It will also involve a good costume for myself on the night.”
The event, on January 11, will close with a DJ set from Maximo Park’s Paul Smith.
St Oswald’s fund-raiser Hugh Medcalf said: “We’re incredibly excited to be hosting such a unique event featuring a wealth of North East musical talent.
“It’s a really fun way to celebrate the fantastic music scene in the region while raising vital funds for the hospice.”
