HOUSEHOLDERS are being urged to have a spring clean and help others.
County Durham Furniture Forum, which is made up of six charities, takes good quality unwanted items, including furniture, electrical goods and bric-a-brac, and makes them available to others at low cost.
The forum also reduces waste and provides training and volunteering opportunities to people.
Ruth Smith, from strategic waste management at Durham County Council, said: “We’re always looking for new ways to protect the environment and save money, and County Durham Furniture Forum is perfect for that.
“We really want to encourage people to recycle their household items, rather than just throwing them away.”
Last year, more than 500 tonnes of furniture was reused by the members of the forum, a figure it is hoping to beat this year.
