Sports Bar, Ashrooke Sports Club, West Lawns, Sunderland
Football addicts and rugby fans won't miss a second of the action at Ashbrooke Sports Club – even if the big matches clash.
The sports bar, in West Lawn, has been kitted out with TV screens and will show all the big Premier League games and Six Nations matches this year.
If there is a clash in the TV schedules, the bottom bar, which has been fitted with a projector, will be opened up to show the other game so all the club's customers can be kept happy.
The one-time members-only clubhouse has thrown its doors open to everyone, so whether you are a member or not you can expect a warm welcome.
If you fall for the place you can sign up to be a member and get a loyalty card, which cashes up points in your account every time you pay at the till.
You can then collect them to spend inside the club and save yourself some money.
The lounge has been revamped, with a lick of paint and new sofas, new pumps at the bar and a TV screen and it now offers a more comfortable setting than the traditional bar next door.
The measures are all part of the club's long-term plan to secure its financial future after money worries came to a head in May last year.
Cash gift helps to secure sports club's future.
The efforts have definitely paid off and Ashbrooke is no longer a dusty old clubhouse but an inviting sports bar, with friendly staff and a fantastic atmosphere.
Guest ales include Mutz Nuts, Prince Bishop, Big Lamp, Double Maxim and Oxford Gold, which are 2.40 a pint and are changed every few months.
On draught the bar also offers Guinness, 2.80, Strongbow, 2.20, Banks, 2.40, Fosters, 2.55 and Peroni 2.80 as well as a range of spirits, soft drinks, and bottled beer and cider.
There are also plans for a restaurant to be opened at the club in the next year or so.
But for the moment it sells the usual bar snacks and lays on traditional pub grub such as pie and chips or chilli and burgers for the big games and matches.
Pay per view matches and events are also in the pipeline, alongside guaranteed coverage of all the Six Nations fixtures over the next two months.
Future events include a St Patrick's Day bash on March 17.
