Sporting chance at park

A CHALLENGE has been set to encourage people to try out a new sport.

Young people across County Durham are being invited to try out activities being hosted in parks by Durham County Council’s Culture and Sport Team.

Children aged eight and over can visit Woodhouse Park in Peterlee on Thursday, April 17, when they will be able to try out street dance, touch rugby, street tennis, ping pong, golf, inflatable cricket and freestyle football games.

They will also be able to compete in a skate park competition, while clubs will give people the chance to take part in more traditional sports.

The Park Sport events are free and run between 1pm and 4pm.

East Durham Area Action Partnership is jointly funding the event in Peterlee.

People can get further information about the events by contacting Marie Urwin on 03000 262 797, or by emailing marie.urwin@durham.gov.uk.

Soft play for toddlers and a football five-a-side drop-in sessions will also be run at Abbey Leisure Centre.

Leisure centres in the county will be closed on Good Friday and Easter Monday.
