Spark FM in line for gong

COMMUNITY radio station Spark FM is hoping to walk away with a clutch of gongs in the 2012 Student Radio Awards.

The station, which is based at Sunderland University’s St Peter’s campus, has secured a total of 11 award nominations.

Now, they are hoping to walk away with awards in categories including Best Live Event or Outside Broadcast for the Olympic Torch relay, Best Interview, where the station has three nominations, Best Specialist Music Programming and Best Student Radio Station.

Spark FM DJ Scott McGerty is nominated for two awards in the Best Interview category for his interviews with the Utah Saints and The Far East Movement.

In total, 30 student radio stations from around the UK have received nominations – 15 of them in at least two categories.

Also in the running for the awards are URN radio, URY radio, Express Radio and Fly FM.

The awards evening will take place in London on November 8.
