People are being invited to enjoy an American style night at the movies in South Tyneside - while helping to support worthy causes in the borough.

This month marks the return of the drive-in Movies at Bents Park, South Shields, organised by Ocean Beach Pleasure Park.

Movie fans will be able to drive into the park and enjoy a roster of classic films, from Dirty Dancing to Jaws, and family favourites, from Zootopia to The Goonies, starting from this Saturday until Saturday November 19.

As well as offering big screen entertainment the movie event is also aiming to help give the Mayor’s Charity a funding boost.

The Mayor of South Tyneside, Coun Alan Smith, said: “Everyone loves the movies and this is a great opportunity to see your favourite film and experience an American night at the movies in South Shields.

“The Mayoress and I would like to thank Ocean Beach Pleasure Park for donating some of the proceeds from the sale of tickets to the Mayor’s Charity.”

This year, the Mayor’s Charity is supporting Diabetes UK South Tyneside, Young Carers in South Tyneside and Citizens Advice Bureau South Tyneside.

Philip Sheeran, owner and operator at Ocean Beach, said: “We hope this year’s event is a huge success following the popularity of our drive-in movies in previous years.

“The Mayor’s Charity is a cause that we are honoured to have supported for a number of years and we are very pleased to be helping to raise funds for the Mayor’s chosen charities once more.”

The films will start between 6.45pm and 9pm and tickets are priced at £25 or £30 per car.
