A WEARSIDE woman has been in the national spotlight after being honoured for her five-stone weight loss.
Megan Simpson, of Humbledon, has shrunk to 9st 11lb, after being almost 16st when she started to slim.
She recently reached the semi-final stage of Slimming World’s Slimmer of the Year competition, with her story also featuring in a glossy magazine which included a photoshoot.
Megan, 20, was referred by her doctor to the group in October 2011. She attends Slimming World classes at Holy Rosary Church in Farringdon each week and has become a shining example to others.
“I think it took someone professional to say to me that my weight was getting out of control,” said Megan.
“I’d put on a lot of weight in a little space of time and that’s when I was referred.”
Megan’s slimming effort is made even more the more amazing given the fact that she works at fast-food outlet McDonald’s, in North Moor, Farringdon, with the tempations of Big Macs and chips never far away.
“I suppose it makes it harder,” added Megan, who lives with parents Michael and Dawn.
“When I first started losing weight it was quite tantalising for a while to have that kind of food.
“I probably eat more than I ever have, but it’s more in proportion to my size and I have a lot more fruit.
“There people who I work with who are now going to Slimming World as well, so they’ve sort of followed in my tracks.”
Slimming World consultant Angela Smith praised Megan, saying: “Megan’s been absolutely brilliant. She is very supportive with all of the members of the group, and she’s been a big inspiration to them.
“She’s a very motivating person.”
