Six people have been bailed after a man suffered serious injuries in an attack.
Northumbria Police have today confirmed that the six people arrested in connection with the attack on Wednesday have been bailed.
A huge emergency services response was sparked after the incident in Richmond Road, South Shields at 7.40pm on Wednesday.
An eye-witness, who asked not to be named, said a man had been seen outside a block of flats at the junction of Stanhope Road and Talbot Road holding what appeared to be an iron bar or pipe.
The 34-year-old victim was taken to South Tyneside Hospital after suffering a head wound and an injury to his hand in the assault.
He is still receiving treatment at the hospital, with his condition not believed to be life-threatening.
Police are appealing for witnesses to help them with their enquiries.Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101.
