Charlotte Deacon is a well known Ryhope lady and will be celebrating her 100th birthday next month. She has lived in Ryhope from being a little girl when her father came to work in the mines. She moved into the Sanderlings sheltered housing with her sister in 1980 and spent 35 very happy years there until December 2015. She now lives in Keelboat Lodge, East End, and is looking forward to her birthday card from the Queen, and her birthday celebrations.

Everyone is invited to a strawberry tea in Silksworth IM Church on Saturday from 11am to 1pm in aid of Breast Cancer Care. There will be refreshments and stalls. It has bee organised by Tracy Graham.

Susan Johnson, Pamela Laverick, Maureen Harrison and friends held a Ladies’ Charity Night on Friday, September 16, in Silksworth Cricket Club. They raised an amazing £800, which was presented to the Phoenix Unit at Sunderland Royal Hospital. The unit is delighted with this donation, which will be used to purchase a Vein Finder. Many thanks is expressed to everyone for their continuing support.

An upcycling project for adults will be starting soon in Silksworth Youth and Community Centre. Take along your old unwanted furniture, or there will be some pieces to practice on, resources (paint, sandpaper etc) will be supplied free. There will be lots of fab ideas, hints, tips and support. Ring the centre on 0191 5238000 for more information.
