Ryhope Summer Fun Day will be held on Saturday from 11am to 4pm in Ryhope Recreation Park. As usual there will be lots of entertainment and activities to get involved with, including jazz bands, arts and crafts, street entertainers, tombola, food and refreshments and much, much more. Ryhope Allstars Jazz Band is preparing for this year’s Championships, which will be held in Sports Central in Newcastle over the bank holiday weekend of August 27 and 28. The band have drawn 9 out of 35 bands is practicing in earnest for a great weekend’s performance. Having the event in the middle of Newcastle is going to attract lots of ex-marching members who are coming along to support the bands. Ryhope is supporting the band’s new-look uniforms and would like to thank the Ryhope Community Chest for help with funds towards replacing members’ shoes. The band is really looking forward to a great weekend.
The Allstars Jazz Band will be performing at the Ryhope Carnival in the Recreation Park this Saturday, opening the event at 11am, and then performing a display at 12.30pm. All are welcome to go along to support the fun-filled day.
A knitting group meets on the second Saturday of each month in North Street Methodist Church, Silksworth, from 10am to noon. New members are welcome. You can take along your own knitting or knit for charity. The next meeting will take place this Saturday.
The next blood donor session to be held in Silksworth Community Centre will be on Sunday from 10.05am to 12.05pm and from 1.35pm to 4pm. There is a limited number of walk in slots. For appointments, ring 0300 123 23 23.
Free holiday clubs will be running throughout the summer holidays. Sessions, including a free healthy meal, are available to all children aged five to 16 (children under eight must be accompanied by an adult). Double grader, Junior Stansby, six, is a pupils at Ryhope Infant School and is in Year 1. His favourite hobby is karate and he has been training twice a week for six months and is now a proud owner of a yellow belt. Also pictured are the new 2nd Dans at the Ryhope Club, Adam Walker, John Errington and Emilly Bell along with instructor Mark Holt. The three students worked extremely hard for their grading. It was a great effort from instructor and students. Karate sessions are held in Ryhope Community Centre on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 5.15pm to 6.15pm.
