The Silksworth Banner Group and friends, led by the Shepherd Brass Band from Huddersfield, were first to arrive in Durham City at 8am on Gala Day and had a great time. They returned to the British Legion Club led by the band, who played two tunes, where a meal was provided by Bob Newton and the committee and was very much appreciated. The group also thanked Silksworth and Doxford Park councillors for their Community Chest donation, and everyone else who supported them.

The July meeting of Tunstall WI was a members’ night with mother and daughter Marjorie and Joanne taking the meeting as president and secretary and welcoming four new members. It was a really good meeting enjoyed by all. Many thanks went to Andrew and Owen from Coghlans Caterers, who made their own recipe bread at the meeting and handed out very tasty samples with many members buying bread when the meeting closed. Teresa Rowell gave a very informative report on the AGM that was held at Brighton. Members were reminded that August is holiday month and the meeting will be replaced by the trip on Wednesday, August 10, and will leave the Royal British Legion at 9am. The next meeting will be Thursday, September 8, in North Street Methodist Church, Silksworth, at 7pm, when the WI Federation Choir will entertain. The competition will be an Amusing Photo. All Welcome.

The next Blood Donor Session in Silksworth Community Centre is on Sunday, August 14, from 10.05am to 12.05pm and 1.35pm to 4pm. Limited walk in slots, or appointments can be made on 0300 123 2323.
