Saint Benedict’s Hospice will shortly be opening a charity furniture shop in Ryhope and is looking to recruit volunteers to work in the shop.

The hospice is grateful for the new electric people carrier, worth £23, 000, from the Evans Halshaw dealership. The hospice now has two vehicles which will be used to take patients on days out and taking them from the hospice to hospital. The transportation service is lead by transport co-ordinator Irwin Smart and carried out by volunteer drivers.
Silksworth Heritage Group’s monthly meeting will now take place on a Monday afternoon in Beckwith Mews at 1.30pm. The next meeting will be on September 21 and everyone is welcome. There will be a film presentation of bygone days at Roker and Seaburn. Admission is £1 and includes refreshments.
North Street Methodist Church is holding a line dancing evening, including supper, on Saturday from 7pm to 9.30pm. Adults are £4, children £2. Tickets from church members. All are welcome. Members will be holding a Macmillan Coffee Morning on Friday, September 25, from 10am to noon. There will be a cake stall and fair trade stall. All are welcome. There will be no coffee morning on Saturday, September 26.
Silksworth Independent Church runs many weekly services and activities including: Sunday morning worship including children’s fun club followed by refreshments and a natter at 10.30am. Wednesday: Banner Group, 10am, mothers and toddlers, 1.30pm and Detonate (youth group for junior school children) 6pm.Thursday: Gardening club 9.30am. Friday carpet bowls 1.30pm. The money was used to buy Aidgifts as chosen by the people who were at the fundraiser. Church members wish to thank everyone for their support.
The next Silksworth Village Surgery’s Patient Participation Group meeting will be on Thursday, September 24, at 5pm. Guest speaker will be Ian Stafford, from Citizen’s Advice Bureau. All patients are welcome.
Silksworth Art Group along with Houghton, Hetton and West Art Groups held an exhibition last week in The Bridges Shopping Centre, which attracted lots of public interest. Members would like to thank Andy Bradley, centre director, Lynn Hodgson, administration manager, and everyone else for all their support and encouragement, giving them the chance to exhibit their work. They are presently exhibiting in Plants R Ross Garden Centre until Sunday, September 27. Earlier in the year they had a two-month exhibition in the Winter Gardens.
