HARDMAN Ernie Bewick has pleaded guilty to breaching laws which regulate security firms.
The 56-year-old was due to stand trial at Sunderland Magistrates’ Court yesterday, over claims he committed an offence under the Private Security Industry Act.
Bewick, of Wheatsheaf Court, North Haven, Roker, had previously denied breaching a licence issued under the Act.
But on the first morning of a scheduled three-day trial, his legal team entered a guilty plea on a basis, meaning he agreed to plead guilty to part of the charge.
The court heard that Bewick, company director of Bewick Security Limited, had been charged with breaching a condition of his security licence, between March 2005 and November 2009, in Sunderland.
Defence barrister Brian Reece denied that Bewick knew he was doing anything wrong and said he acted on professional advice he was given.
District Judge Roger Elsey said the case would be sentenced at Newcastle Crown Court at a later date.
