A man needed 38 stitches to his face after being slashed in a brutal attack in Seaham.

Peterlee police have made a further appeal for help after revealing more details of the injuries the 40-year-old victim suffered when he was attacked close to the bottom parade of shops in The Avenue in the early hours of Saturday, November 21.

The man was slashed across the face with a sharp blade and has received what police describe as a 'disfiguring' injury which required 38 stiches. He lost a lot of blood and was admitted to hospital.

He has told police he was attacked when he intervened with two stocky males who were assaulting a third man.

Police are trying to trace the man who was apparently being assaulted and may also have been injured.

Anyone who knows anything about the identity of any of the three men should contact Peterlee CID on 101 quoting incident DHM-21112015-0110
