A BAR is set to reopen after undergoing a £200,000 facelift.

The George, in The Avenue, Deneside, Seaham, is to be relaunched today as Bar Avenue, after standing empty for more than a year.

The venue was bought from its previous brewery firm owner by Tony Dulay, whose family runs a convenience shop just a few doors away.

The 39-year-old, who lives in Ashbrooke, said the pub had already created six jobs.

Four more will be employed in the newyear, when it will start to serve food.

Property developer Tony said: “It’s been totally gutted. There was nothing to salvage, and it’s been rewired and decorated and a new floor put in.

“The feedback from people so far is they’re looking forward to it being open, and I think we’ve brought this up to a nice standard.”
