From tomorrow until Thursday in Enfield Road Independent Methodist Church, Eastlea, commencing at 7.15pm, Vane Tempest Theatre Group will present a 40th anniversary concert, Life Begins at Forty’ with songs from previous shows and a medley of contemporary musicals. A service of Holy Communion to celebrate Ascension Day will be held on Thursday at 7pm in St Andrew’s Church, Dalton-le-Dale.

Don’t miss out on the popular Duck Race, organised by Dalton-le-Dale History Society to be held on Saturday at 4pm. Ducks are £1 each with ducklings for the Kiddies’ Duckling Race 50p. Children must be accompanied by an adult. After the race there will be an evening of good fun in the parish hall, with a quiz, entertainment and meal. On Sunday, Holy Communion will be celebrated at 9.30am at St Andrew’s Church, Dalton-le-Dale, and 6pm at Christ Church, with morning prayer held at 10am at Christ Church. All welcome to join in the fellowship.

Christ Church Mothers’ Union will meet in the church hall, Station Road, on Monday, May 9, at 2pm when members will pack toiletry bags for the local hospitals and collect knitted blankets, infant hats, mitts etc, for the premature babies ward.

Next Tuesday evening, Mr L Henderson, CSNU, will preside at the 7pm evening service in Seaham SNU Church, Vane Hall, Cornelia Terrace. Entrance is £3.50.

Seaton Community Centre with the Shaw Trust is holding a plant sale on Saturday, May 14, from 10am to noon. Admission is free. Refreshments will be available and a tombola stall.

Eastlea Community Centre, in association with Shaw Trust, is holding its annual Garden Fete on Saturday, May 21. This is open to the public from 10am-2pm. There will be an indoor table-top sale, outdoor garden plant sale, a raffle and refreshments. Entry is free. If you would like to book a table, ring 0191 581 2399, cost is £10 per table. Raffle prizes would be gratefully received.

Seaham and District Scouts held a very successful St George’s Day event in St Paul’s Church hall, Murton, for Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers. The next District events are to be a Sports day at Murton Park and an awards night in Dow House, Seaham.

Dawdon (2nd Seaham) Air Scout Group would like to thank Seaham Asda staff for allowing them to hold a bag pack. Through the generosity of customers, £270 was raised towards the running costs of their headquarters, The Farn Scouting Centre, Parkside Road. They are planning to organise an entertainment night and a raffle in the near future. Any raffle prizes will be gratefully accepted as would suggestions and help for future fundraising events.
