Seaham Town Bowls Club is looking for new members to play this summer. No experience is required as coaching is available. The new season starts on Monday, April 11, and ends in September. There are ladies and men’s teams who compete in the local leagues. Come along and meet members for a chat and a roll up (bowlers call that having a game) from 1pm, Monday to Saturday. At 7pm this evening, Mr R Batey will preside at the evening service in Seaham Spiritualist Church, Vane Hall, Cornelia Terrace. Entrance is £3.50. On the evening of April 12, Mr B Cook is coming from Paignton, Devon, to take the service. To help cover his travel expenses the charge for this one evening will be £5.

Each Tuesday Seaham Methodist Toddlers’ Group meet from 9.30am. Cost is £1. Contact Deacon Esther on 07572 153791 for details.

Every Wednesday the Rock Solid Youth Group, for seven to 11-year-olds, meets in Seaham Methodists Church. New members are welcome. Contact Deacon Esther on 07572 153791.

A short service of Holy Communion is held every Wednesday at 10am at Christ Church. Stay for a cup of tea or coffee and a chat (subject to funerals).

On Sunday, the Second Sunday of Easter, at 10am, there will be Holy Communion celebrated at Christ Church and at 6pm Holy Communion will be celebrated in St Andrew’s Church, Dalton le Dale. Also at 6pm there will be evensong at Christ Church.

There will be a Eucharist service at 9.30am in St John the Evangelist tomorrow and on Thursday at 9.30am in All saints, Deneside.

Seaham Methodists coffee morning and bake sale will take place from 10.30am on Saturday, April 9. Entry is £1, which includes a free cup of tea or coffee.

St Andrew’s Lent coffee morning held on Saturday, March 12, raised £385 for church funds. Many thanks to all the willing helpers, without whom the event could not have happened.

The Medieval Evening, organised and prepared by Vicar Paul and Catharine, held in Christ Church hall, raised £347, which will be divided between Christ Church and St Andrew’s. There were knights and ladies and the occasional monk feasting, enjoying the jousting, games and music.

Christ Church Dance Club, consisting of modern sequence dancing, is held every Thursday in the church hall from 7.30-9.30pm. There is bingo onpmce a month and regular supper evenings. This is a friendly group and age is no barrier. Ring 5816135 for further information.

Dawdon Community Centre, Queen Alexandra Road, is hosting an Easter Family Fun Day on Wednesday, April 6, from noon until 4pm. There will be free active, creative, sport and dance workshops for the whole family. There will be a giant outdoor inflator and also a decorated Easter egg competition. All craft materials and eggs are included. There will also be a wide variety of good quality table-top sales and stalls, a low cost cafe, games on outdoor Gym-Hub. The event is supported by East Durham Area Action Partnerships, Holiday Hunger Fund, and Barclays Bank. All proceeds will fund children’s summer holiday activities. There is still money outstanding for 10 poppy wreaths orders for last November’s parades, and two for the year before. The Poppy Organiser, Mrs Armes, would appreciate it if all outstanding amounts could be paid with cheques made payable to the Royal British Legion.
