A SCHOOLBOY had to be rescued after becoming trapped in a reservoir.
The 12-year-old boy had to be helped to safety from the seven-foot empty reservoir at Leechemere Road.
Fire crews from Sunderland Central and East stations were called to the disused reservoir at Grangetown, yesterday evening.
The boy had climbed down and was unable to get out again.
Firefighters used a ladder and safety harness to rescue him at about 7.30pm.
He was checked out by paramedics, but did not need any hospital treatment and was taken home.
