A GRIM weather forecast has forced drive-in movie organisers to slash a Hallowe’en screening.

Council chiefs have decided to cancel films which were due to be shown at Herrington Country Park at the weekend to avoid viewers being disappointed at the last minute,

Ghostbusters and the fancy dress competition to run alongside the event on Saturday, along with a later screening of Carrie, have been called off.

Anyone who bought tickets for either matinee or evening performances will receive a refund.

Councillor John Kelly, portfolio holder for public health, wellness and culture, said: “This year’s programme of free outdoor moves and affordable drive-ins has been hugely popular and we’re already planning ahead for next year, but unfortunately the weather got the better of us this time.

“We can only apologise for any disappointment at the cancellation, but thought it better to reach that decision sooner rather than later to give people time to make other plans before the weekend.”
