PRIZE-WINNING butcher Paul Clark has landed yet more awards for his bangers.

Paul, who runs George H Pickings, in Front Street, East Boldon, has taken the top spot at the Northern Council of Butchers’ annual sausage and ham competition for the fourth year running.

The event, held in Norton, near Stockton, is billed as the “biggest sausage event in the North East” and attracted entries from across the region.

Paul, 46, won best speciality sausage for his lamb, mint and honey recipe, and the pork sausage class with his traditional pork banger.

He was also named Overall Supreme Champion.

He said: “It’s no mean feat. This is the fourth year in a row we have accomplished this, and seven times out of the last eight years.

“I get a chance to follow my passions for new flavours with help from my cracking team and have now been at the top in sausage competitions for the last 25 years – nationally as well as locally.”

Last month, Paul picked up nine gold awards at a competition in Nottingham, winning every category he entered.

He enjoys experimenting with different flavours and sees the contests as the ideal place to pick up ideas.

He added: “The other butchers there are rivals, of course, but we’re not competing for the same customers, so I think it’s OK to see what they’re up to.

“I’m sure they do the same.”
