EXCITED children got to tell Santa in person exactly what they want to find in their stockings on Christmas morning this year.
Scores of youngsters got to meet Saint Nick at the Tithe Barn, in Houghton Rectory Park, as part of annual event which is put on by the Friends of Rectory Park group.
Visitor numbers were boosted as a number of church Christmas fairs took part in the town over the weekend. Santa will be at the grotto again next Saturday, from 11am to 4pm. Admission is £1 and all children must be accompanied by a parent or adult.
Members of the Friends organisation, Edith Corney, told the Echo that families had turned out in force once again for the festive fun.
“We’ve been really busy again this year,” she said.
“We reckon there are just short of 500 kids who’ve been and we expect more next Saturday so I’d imagine we’ll be inundated.”
The Friends are hoping to find new premises in the town for next year’s grotto.
“We need a Santa Claus in Houghton in the run-up to Christmas every year so if anyone can help they should contact us.” said Mrs Corney.
