An independent hairdressers has proved itself a cut above the rest after securing a site in a prestigious new spa.
Some of the top salons in the region were vying for a branch in the new £8million Ramside Hall Hotel development.
Reef salon emerged head and shoulders above the rest and welcome their first wave of clients today.
The owners of the salon were so impressed by the luxury facilities at the Ramside, which opened to much fanfare at the weekend, that they have relocated from their original salon in Bannatyne Health Club in Belmont, Durham.
“There were quite a few salons who expressed an interest so we put together a business plan to get it, and we were so proud of the fact they chose us,” said director Leanne Gillespie.
Reef, which will keep open its sister salon on Wynyard Hall, near Hartlepool, finishes off the new spa which has opened in a multi-million pound extension to the landmark hotel.
I think some people have an idea that Ramside Hall is male-orientated, with the golf course. But it’s all changed now and we’re helping to bring more of a feminine sideLeanne Gillespie, director at Reef Salon
It opened for business at the weekend, giving people a chance to try out the facilities which took a year to build, including 14 treatment rooms, a 25metre pool, sleep pods, a mud chamber and hydrotherapy pool, as well as an Asian-themed restaurant, Fusion.
Leanne, who co-owns Reef Salon with Cheryl Rippon, said: “We are really impressed with the facilities here and we are proud to be a part of that. “I think some people have an idea that Ramside Hall is male-orientated, with the golf course. But it’s all changed now and we’re helping to bring more of a feminine side.”
As well as catering for women, the salon has a dedicated mens’ area for wet shaves.
Leanne added: “There’s a lot of weddings at Ramside, but it’s not all about the bride, men can be pampered too.”
Cheryl said: “Reef opened in Bannatyne’s 13 years ago. In the last couple of years we re-grouped and had a vision of how we could be more client-centred.
“The spa is perfect for us, it’s very much a flagship site. It’s only ten minutes from our original site in Belmont and still has free parking.
“We are used to doing wedding hair at Wynyard and we would like to do more of that here.”
Moving to the new site has seen Reef take on new stylists and a receptionist.
Leanne said: “We’ve been telling our clients about the relocation. Some don’t like change, but we think they’ll be impressed when they come here. “We’ve kept the nice, friendly vibe. We don’t want to be pretentious.”
