Runaway car hits restaurant

A RUNAWAY car ploughed into the front of a restaurant.

Zizzi, in Saddler Street, Durham City, had to undergo urgent structural repairs after the Audi A5, which was unoccupied, rolled down a hill and hit the front.

It is understood the driver had parked the car in a loading bay further up the street and went into another premises to make a delivery.

A suspected handbrake failure caused the vehicle to then roll down the hill and into the restaurant.

The doorway of the Grade II-listed building was damaged in the incident which happened on Sunday night.

No one was hurt in the smash and the business has since reopened after undergoing repairs.
