A 22-year-old man was arrested after he sparked a major rescue operation.
The man got trapped on the roof of a historic building in Durham City.
Fire crews using an aerial platform plucked the man to safety from his hiding place at one of the highest points of Durham University’s library, in the shadow of Durham Cathedral on the Palace Green, at around 4.30am today.
Police were alerted after a bag was found lying on the ground and CCTV cameras captured the figure of a man on the library roof.
Officers called in colleagues from the fire service.
Just after 6am the man was found and he was checked over by an ambulance crew after he was brought to the ground.
Durham Police said the man was taken into custody and was due to be dealt with later today.
