DADS went dipping with their youngsters as part of a rockpooling session.

Starfish, crabs and water beetles were discovered by the families as they searched the beach in Seaham.

Dads and male carers, who attend Durham County Council’s One Point children’s centres in the town and in Peterlee, were invited to the event with their youngsters as part of the Family Man programme.

Debbie Unsworth, One Point senior family worker, said: “The children loved splashing about and being inquisitive, and it was great to make the most of this glorious weather to get out and about with our fishing nets.”

The popular Family Man sessions take place every Sunday.

Dad Dave Punchan took part.

“Family man always puts a Sunday smile on a grumpy dad’s face,” he said.

Fellow regular James Simmons added: “Family Man provides quality one-to-one time after a long working week for dads and carers with their children. There’s the chance to get involved in all different areas of other activities like painting, bug hunting and model-making’”

There are more Family Man activities planned.
