CONGESTION is expected at one of Sunderland’s busiest junctions when roadworks start next week.
The £150,000 work at the junction of Durham, Premier and Springwell Roads will begin on Wednesday and includes replacing existing traffic signals and refurbishing pedestrian islands.
The work aims to improve traffic flow and is expected to take about six weeks to complete.
There will be lane closures and temporary traffic signals, which may mean some delays.
Coun James Blackburn, the council’s portfolio holder for attractive and inclusive city, said the work would help improve the flow of traffic and pedestrian safety. He said: “The benefits and improvements will be seen by all.”
