AN order to close off roads has been put in place ahead of Sunderland’s home derby against Newcastle United.
Sunderland City Council has said it will close off a host of streets for the Tyne-Wear derby on Sunday, October 21.
They will be shut to traffic from 7am to 5pm.
The authority said the restrictions are needed to “prevent obstruction of the streets at a time when the streets are likely to be thronged or liable to be obstructed because of an event known as Sunderland v Newcastle United”.
Access will only be allowed to business premises and licenced street traders, along with the emergency services.
The streets to close will be all of Sheepfolds North, Easington Street, Hay Street, Stadium Way, Vaux Brewery Way, and Millennium Way, from its junction with the back of North Bridge Street.
