Police searching for a missing Durham headteacher have been alerted to a body found on the beach.
This morning a member of the public reported finding a body on the beach near Blackhall Rocks where Mark Bushnell, deputy head at Durham School, was last seen.
Mr Bushnell left his home in Durham City on 9 March with some dirty laundry after the family’s washing machine broke down.
The father-of-three’s car was later discovered at a clifftop car park at Blackhall.
Coastguard and mountain rescue teams joined police for a major search operation, which ended just a few days ago.
A spokeswoman for Durham Constabulary said a formal identification has yet to be carried out, but Mr Bushnell’s family had been informed.
