UNWANTED bikes and books which have been left on Metro trains by passengers will be donated to others.

The transport service’s operator DB Regio have decided to give the items to two North East charities who recycle and distribute goods to others.

Recyke y’Bike and Borderling Books have been selected to benefit from the scheme, which is expected to start in the new year.

Metro spokeswoman Laura Carruthers said: “One of the directors at DB Regio is a keen cyclist and noticed the increase in the number of bikes being left behind.”
