CHARITY champions are recruiting dippers to make a sea dash as they aim to make their Boxing Day celebration their best yet.
East Durham Round Table is recruiting fund-raisers to take part in this year’s event in Seaham, with the volunteers hoping to draw in up to 300 people.
They will then make the run into the icy water from the slope beach within the town’s North Dock marina.
The dip usually attracts crowds of hundreds as families watch on from the shore.
Paul Hepple, who is organising the event, said: “Each year our dippy dippers run into the North Sea to raise money for a charity close to their hearts.
“It’s a fantastic thing to take part in.
“With the wind-chill factor, it’s even colder in the water and we usually have a great turn-out of people in fancy dress. It’s good to see so many people get involved, but we want even more taking part this year.
“We have seen a great increase in participants year on year, and have raised thousands of pounds for local and national causes.”
Cash raised by the Round Table will be distributed to good causes across the district.
Previous projects backed by the charity have included health campaigns, a community project in Horden and day care centres.
Registration for the dip is between 10.30am and 11am, with a £5 entry fee.
