R-Bar, Roker Hotel
Roker Terrace, Sunderland
AN escape to the pub is just what you need in the cold snap.
And warming your insides with some real pub grub is a must, which is why R-Bar, in the Roker Hotel on Sunderland's seafront, has all the right ingredients.
This welcoming pub provides a perfect retreat from the wintry weather.
As you cosy up in your seat looking out over the sea, you're reminded how good it is to be inside. The bar offers plenty of seating, either for diners or for those just wanting a drink.
Drinks on draught include Fosters, 2.65, John Smiths, 2.35, Strongbow, 2.70, Woodpecker, 2.70 and Bulmers 3.20.
There is also a selection of real ales, including Deuchars IPA, Samson and a spiced seasonal ale.
As befits a pub attached to two restaurants, its new menu provides some tantalising treats, including both fillet and sirlion steak, fish and "proper" chips, burgers in floured baps, sandwiches, paninis and soups.
A
wide range of grills are available, including the classic chargrill chicken breast dish.
The menu ranges from 3.25 to 4.95 for small plates and 5.50 to 8.50 for larger plates, which are now much more varied.
F
amilies are also welcome – all meals on the children's menu are 3.50.
R-Bar promotes different offers daily; Monday is quiz night and you can get pizza and a pint for 4.50.
Tuesday is pasta and pint night for 4.95 and Wednesday night has curry and free pool for 4.95.
Thursday is steak and pint night for 5.95, while Fridays and Saturdays provide a late bar and a DJ until 1am.
On Sunday, a traditional carvery is available from noon to 4pm, with happy hour beginning at 7pm.
There is a variety of white, red or rose wine to choose from, with a bottle of red or white costing 10.50 and a glass 2.75.
The bar offers friendly service and some very eclectic decor, including snakeskin-effect seats and an old wooden bar, making for interesting surroundings. And, of course, the pub enjoys amazing views out to sea.
There are also two pool tables, bandits, quiz machines and TVs, showing all the latest sports games and highlights.
