A dog had a lucky escape after falling from cliffs.

The two-month old Springer Spaniel got into difficulties at Ryhope Beach in Sunderland at 4.29pm today.

The line rescue team from South Shields Community Fire Station, plus crews from Hebburn and Sunderland Central, were called out to help the dog.

It had become trapped about 10 metres down from the cliff's edge.

A firefighter made their way down to the ledge and placed the puppy into a harness.

They were then winched back to safety.
