TWO Wearside couples are battling it out in a contest for people whose partners are ‘punching above their weight’ when it comes to good looks.
Dave Scott and Sarah Oliver, from Sunderland, and Liam and Victoria Barrett, from Chester-le-Street, are in the final of the Metro Radio’s contest.
The content aims to find couple’s that are mismatched when it comes to looks.
People can then vote on who they think is punching above their weight the most.
Both Wearside couples are hoping to secure the most votes and bag the top prize of a five-star holiday to Corfu.
Dave, 22, of Burnside, met Sarah, 24, when he was just 15-years-old and working in Specsavers.
The pair became friends and Dave says he finally managed to get out of the “friend zone” three years ago.
But he believes he is ‘punching above his weight’.
Dave, who now works for a computer company, said: “I always had a crush on her and we were at a party together a few years ago and one of her friend said to me, ‘why don’t you just ask her out?’
“On our second date, I took her ice skating even though I’d never been before. I spent a week leading up to it trying to learn and when we went, I lost control and started spinning uncontrollably before falling over.
“I looked up, hoping to see her there to help me up but she was stood over at the side laughing her head off.”
He added: “People always say I’m punching above my weight. Everyone was saying I should enter us.
“I sent the picture in and got a phone call from Metro Radio two minutes later and when I went home and told Sarah we were going to be on the radio she couldn’t believe it.
“I’m always saying that I’m punching above me weight and she tells me I’m being daft – she’s very modest.

“We usually go on holiday every year for our anniversary, but we’ve just bought our first house together so we wouldn’t be able to afford it, so winning this holiday would be brilliant.”
Liam and Victoria are celebrating their fifth wedding anniversary tomorrow and say winning the holiday would be the perfect gift.
Liam, 25, and Victoria, 26, work together at energy company Utility Wise, in North Tyneside, and have two children James, four, and Emily, three.
Liam said: “We entered just for a laugh really. We’ve been together for so long now that we don’t really think about things like this, but people always tell me I’m punching above my weight.
“We met at a friend’s 16th birthday party so we’ve been together for almost 10 years now and it’s out fifth wedding anniversary on Friday and winning this holiday would be the perfect present – it would be nice to have a break from the kids.”
Sunderland businessman Stephen Black and his wife Paula are also in the running.
Stephen, 36, who runs his own mixed martial arts gym in Ryhope, Sunderland, met Paula, 42, on a blind date for years ago.
The couple, of Jarrow, tied the knot in September.
They have a daughter, Chloe, and Paula runs Paula Louise Hair Design, on the Hedworth estate, in Jarrow.
Paula said: “He always gets told he’s punching above his weight by his friends.
“It’s been a good laugh being a part of it and it would be fantastic to win. We got married at the Quality Hotel, in Boldon, in September, so this would be a nice little honeymoon for us.
