A TWO-YEAR labour of love for landlady Elizabeth Griffiths is really paying off in style.
Elizabeth, who runs the Stumble Inn in Chester Road, Sunderland, took over the popular premises in October 2012.
Since then, she has established her own style of home-cooked food as well as a range of entertainment.
She is pulling in customers from across Wearside, as well as further afield and as far away as the USA and China.
And her hard work has also resulted in a string of nominations for our What’s On Where awards.
One praised the Stumble Inn for the “great staff and amazing people who drink here.” Another said: “It’s the best ever with the hardest working staff.”
And a third said: “This is a real pub with great service and friendly feel. Love the live music and other entertainment on the weekends.”
Elizabeth, who had previously managed other pubs in the city centre, wanted to take on a venture for herself.
She said: “I have got a really good menu in place of home-cooked food. There’s entertainment, two quizzes a week, karaoke and live bands on Saturdays. It is the local pub I want it to be.”
Elizabeth admitted she was “shocked” to be nominated and added: “I don’t think I could describe how I would feel if I won.”
Entries have been arriving in impressive numbers for our competition which aims to reward the elite in everything from restaurants to children’s venues, takeaways to parks and community areas, and hotels to the best shopping experience. But we want more and we need your nominations.
We are looking for the very best in the arts, culture, hospitality and leisure sectors of South Tyneside and Wearside, and Gazette readers can nominate their own favourites.
The awards are held in association with our weekly entertainments guide, Wow 24/7. It’s only the second time we have held the awards and we want to build on the success of last year’s great inaugural competition.
We will be revealing the winners on February 26 in a glittering finale at the Best Western Roker Hotel.
The deadline for entries is February 5. Then the judges will draw up a shortlist from all the contenders.
Put your favourite in the running. Either fill in the form from the paper or nominate someone online HERE.
