TWO young singers are hoping to achieve their popstar dream after being chosen to take part in a national talent contest.

Best friends Mia Carney and Jaycee Pink, both 10, will take on other aspiring stars in the first round of auditions of the Teenstar competition next month.

The girls are hoping to outshine other contestants from around the region in the pre-teen category at the first heat, which will take place at the Mill Volvo Tyne Theatre, Newcastle.

Jaycee, of East Herrington Primary Academy, is relishing the chance to shine, according to mum Amy.

The 32-year-old, of Humbledon, said: “They are putting Sunderland out there because there aren’t that many people from the city auditioning.”

Mia’s mum Ashley Carney, 39, said the Farringdon Academy pupil is excited to be taking part in the contest.

She added: “It is the first time that Mia has done anything like this.”
