BUDDING writers are being encouraged to put pen to paper.

Writing group Cuckoo will be hosting young writers’ workshops at Pop Recs Ltd, the record shop and venue run by Frankie & the Heartstrings in Fawcett Street in Sunderland.

The workshops are a chance for 12 to 19-year-old writers to try out different genres, work with professional writers, get feedback on their work and get a taste of what the company’s regular writing groups are all about.

Details of the free sessions are as follows:

l Thursday, October 31, 11am to 1pm: Writing stories with Carina Rodney.

l Thursday, October 31, 2pm to 4pm: Music journalism with Claire Dupree (NARC magazine).

l Friday, November 1, 11am to 1pm: Poetry and lyrics with John Challis.

l Friday, November 1, 2pm to 4pm: Dark fiction (zombies, vampires, apocalypses!) with Amy Mackelden.

A regular writers’ group will begin on Saturday November 2, from 11am to 1pm, and will take place every fortnight at the same time.

Young people can sign up for one session or all four by filling in the online form which is available on www.newwritingnorth.com.
