Police van crashes while answering emergency call

A POLICE van was left lying on its side after a crash in the centre of Chester-le-Street.

The Vauxhall Vivaro overturned after being involved in a collision with a Toyota Auris at the traffic lights at Market Place, at 9.20am yesterday, while on its way to an incident.

The 28-year-old officer and the motorist, a 53-year-old woman from Gateshead, suffered shock and whiplash and were treated by paramedics at the scene.

An inquiry is being conducted by Durham Police’s road policing unit.
