RESIDENTS are being reassured that antisocial behaviour will not be tolerated as extra police patrols are lined up in the approach to Halloween and Bonfire night.

Durham Constabulary says that though most people enjoy this time of year without any issues, a minority use it as an excuse for troublemaking, making the events a misery for others.

Extra patrols and initiatives will be undertaken over the next week to target problem hot spots.

Superintendent Kerrin Smith, of the force’s neighbourhood and partnerships command, said: “We want to send a clear message to those who use the season as an excuse for intimidating and anti-social behaviour that we will not tolerate any trouble under the guise of mischief.”
