Police searching for a woman who went missing in the early hours of Boxing Day have found a body in South Tyneside.
Fifty-nine-year-old Sally Allan had left her home in Ponteland and was last seen on CCTV on Newcastle's Quayside the same morning.
Northumbria Police today released this statement: "Police searching for missing Ponteland woman Sally Allan have found a woman's body in the River Tyne.
"At 1.07pm on Wednesday, February 3, a body of a woman was found in water near to to the riverside in Jarrow. .
"The body has been recovered from the water and enquiries are being carried out to identify the woman.
"Although we can not confirm that the body is that of Sally Allan, her family have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this time."
