TEENAGERS looking for a taste of life as a police officer are being given the chance with the help of a cadet scheme.

Northumbria Police are on the lookout for 14 and 15-year-olds from across South Tyneside to become police cadets.

Recruitment is taking place now, with interviews expected to be held in the last week of this month.

The cadets programme is a four-year scheme which will include training in a variety of areas including taking part in crime prevention events and working with voluntary groups.

The young people will also work towards their Duke of Edinburgh Award.

The scheme is led by officers, staff and volunteers from Northumbria Police, with sessions held during term time on Tuesdays, at South Tyneside College, St George’s Avenue, South Shields.

Cadets will be issued with a uniform.
