A FOOTBALL fan has called in police after seeing racist abuse directed at a Premiership player.
The follower on Twitter contacted Northumbria Police on Sunday after spotting the tweet about Newcastle United’s James Perch after his clash with Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina led to the Spaniard being given a red card.
The message containing the abuse and a threat to punch Perch is believed to have been sent by a Liverpool fan.
As the person who complained about the message is from County Durham, Northumbria Police passed the matter on to Durham Constabulary.
A spokesman for the force said: “An appointment has been made for an officer to visit them and take further details.”
