Police hunt hit-and-run driver who left biker in hospital with serious injuries

Police say they are continuing to hunt a suspected hit-and-run driver who left the scene of a crash which left a biker in hospital with serious injuries.

A silver Ford Mondeo was driving westbound on New Road, Boldon Colliery, when it collided with a motorbike at about 5.05pm on Sunday.

The motorist made off from the scene into a nearby wooded area after the incident.

The 31-year-old bike rider was taken to South Tyneside Hospital with serious injuries.

He is still being treated at the hospital, with his condition described as stable.

Police say inquiries are ongoing and are still appealing for witnesses to come forward.
