POLICE searching for a man missing in the sea off Sunderland have found a body.
A search and rescue operation was launched yesterday afternoon after a man and woman, both in their 30s, got into difficulties while trying to retrieve a dog at Hendon beach.
The woman was recovered from the water and was taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital for treatment where she is receiving treatment for hypothermia. The dog was unharmed.
The man remained missing overnight. Police and coastguard resumed the search this morning.
A body was found on the beach near Ocean Road in Grangetown.
