Police appeal after 'serious' crash in South Tyneside sees cyclist taken to hospital

Police are appealing for information after a man was taken to hospital following a serious collision in South Tyneside.

At around 8.24am this morning (Thursday) police received a report of a crash between a white Ford Focus and a cyclist in Jarrow near to the Tyne Tunnel approach. Officers attended and found that the incident had occurred on the roundabout junction with the A185 and Priory Road.

The Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) was also called to assist North East Ambulance Service.

The driver of the Ford Focus was not injured, but the 55-year-old male cyclist was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle by paramedics with serious but non-life threatening injuries. He remains in hospital at this time but officers are now appealing for any witnesses to the collision to come forward.
