A BUSINESSMAN is blooming furious at green-fingered thieves who may have dashed his hopes of success in the Britain in Bloom competition.

Bob Latimer, owner of Latimer’s Seafood deli in Bents Road, Whitburn, put bedding plants into the wall of his premises to add a summer splash of colour.

It was an attempt to brighten up the area for his customers and passers-by alike.

He also planned to make such a splash that he could enter the colourful display in the annual Britain in Bloom contest.

But within hours of completing the work, thoughtless thieves had come along and helped themselves to six of the plants.

Today Mr Latimer, a well-known environmental campaigner, called on members of the public to pass on information about the culprits.

He said: “I can’t believe someone was so desperate to sink so low as to steal six plants. I have to say if only they had asked, I would have given them the plants rather than ruin our display which is enjoyed by all.”

Meanwhile, Mr Latimer has made his feelings clear in a typed note he has left displayed outside the premises.

Anyone with information on the theft, which happened after 7pm on Saturday night, can call Mr Latimer on 529 2200.
